ODE TO WHIRL-Y-GIG, Whirlygig Summer Celebration

Last Saturday it was a beautiful sunny day and it was Whirly weekend once again. Things were slightly different this time as some of my new Whirly friends invited me for a drink at the Rusty Bike in Mile End beforehand.

It was nice to have the opportunity to really get to know people and chat before the madness of the club. So, thanks to Louise, Melissa, Las and Geoff for being warm and friendly and welcoming me in, it meant a lot.

This got me thinking about the love and belonging I feel at Whirl-y-gig, you have made me so happy, its been truly life changing.

After an incredible night of love, togetherness and positivity at the Summer Celebration; here is my ODE TO WHIRL-Y-GIG, with the help of some quotes and poems.

(Most pictures are from this weekends Whirly but a few are from previous ones)

~~The Fairy Gathering~~

In the shadows of the dark forest

In the afternoon waning light

The faeries are a gathering

To celebrate the night

On the wind I can hear them singing

Like the tinkling of bells

As clear as silver raindrops

Gently falling on the dells

I long to see them dancing

Underneath the silver moon

So I sit among the shadows

And I offer them a tune

I heard them whisper in the trees

Laughter echoes in the glen

But they melt away like stardust

Far beyond all mortal ken

“And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon.”
― Edward Lear, The Owl and the Pussycat

“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”
― William W. Purkey

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
― Martin Luther King Jr., A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches

“This world seduced me. Perhaps it was because it felt like one of the few places where people looked up from their phones, where people forgot that they were busy…”

“…Here, the speed was slower, the sky was wider. Here, it just felt right. For the first time since I’d lived in London, I felt like this was where I was meant to be.”

Afloat: A Memoir
Book by Danie Couchman

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
― Lao Tzu

“Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand.”
― William Butler Yeats, The Collected Poems of W.B. Yeats

“We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once.”
― Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.”
― Osho

“Fairies with gossamer wings,
Bring forth beauty, grace and joyful things.
Fairies of the earth are caretakers of our soil, water and trees,
They watch over beautiful creatures such as bears, bunnies and bees.
Fairies ask that you breathe in and appreciate the vantage point from which you stand,
Then trod carefully and respectfully with each intentional step you make across this beautiful land.”
― Molly Friedenfeld

And now I cannot wait until the Whirly Fayre, I am so looking forward to meeting up with all my friends and dancing in the fields with the rest of the Whirly fairies.

And everybody knows I’m the biggest fairy of them all dear.

Next time: Parlour Party
