“Release your majestic mind, embrace your untamed inner spirit. Break free from captivity…you were born to be free.”

Don’t waste the Covid lockdown; use it!!

“I have fallen in love with the imagination. And if you fall in love with the imagination, you understand that it is a free spirit. It will go anywhere, and it can do anything.” – Alice Walker

Its winter in the UK and it hasn’t stopped raining for days, its also cold and dark.

Our lives have sometimes felt the same since this pandemic changed all of our lives for the worse; dark, grey and bleak.

I have had my fair share of issues during the lockdown too; those mood swings were the first thing I needed to sort out. I have been frustrated and moody about being locked down; it goes against everything I believe in but I get why it has been necessary.

Also, I’ve had some health issues to deal with around my IBS (exacerbated by inactivity and anxiety). I have now been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and had a biopsy procedure performed in hospital recently.

As a result I have now gone vegetarian to help with the IBD, but also because of what animal farming does to the environment. This change has been a natural transition for me and I feel great about it.

But all of that aside, I’m still my jolly self, enjoying life as best I can.

As you have probably worked out by now, I am an eternal optimist, and as a result, during this final lockdown, all I can do is keep busy, be creative and look towards the future.

I am a free spirit and I truly believe The New Age of Aquarius is coming and we just need to be patient and use our time well.

2020 was a dreadful year for the whole world; a year we are all glad is over. But it was not a wasted year for me; I truly believe I used my time well during those dreadful months.

I have created a mountain of art:

My books are also coming along nicely.

Hippie Kushi Waking up to Life; Book One, is with the publishers. They have now finished editing the draft and it is currently with the editor to check through before a copy is sent to me to approve.

Once I have approved it it will be ready for publication and be out around March; which is very exciting.

“My soul is from elsewhere, I’m sure of that, and I intend to end up there.” – Rumi

In the mean time I have been working on book two. I only have two chapters left and then its off to the publishers.

Some amazing people have written Forwards for both books.

The fantastic thing is, when I am ready to spend half my year living in Goa (late 2022) I will have the proceeds from my book sales to help finance my adventures. And I have more books in the pipeline.

After living through this pandemic, I’m more determined than ever to fulfil my dreams.

“Being young isn’t about age, it’s about being a free spirit. You can meet someone of 20 who’s boring and old, or you can meet someone of 70 who’s youthful and exciting.”

– Twiggy

Free Spirits are often creative in some way. It is great to express ourselves through art, writing, music or building/creating things like jewellery, statues, clothing or furniture.

Be creative my lovely friends and if this creativity can be made into a money making scheme then go for it; it could be your ticket to a hippie Kushi life of travel and adventure!

“They can’t chain my spirit! My spirit runs free! Walls can’t contain it! Laws can’t restrain it! Authority has no power over it!” – Bill Watterson

The third thing that has been taking up my time during lockdown is the business I have been setting up with my friend David. I am now officially self-employed, which feels really great (I finally feel properly free).

I knew a while back that my days of working for the MAN were over; I’ve changed too much to put up with all that bullshit now.

Thank god for Hippie Utsaah. My hippie clothing and accessories business has really kept me busy and occupied throughout 2020.

I can honestly say it has saved my life in a way, because as we all know, 2020 has not been easy and the mountain of work that has been needed to set the business up has taken my mind off this horrific pandemic.

The website is now ready and all the stock is now on the site. We have bespoke t-shirts with mine and my mum’s artwork on them. Jewellery also made by my artistic mother as well as hippie bags and eventually clothing and other accessories from India and Nepal.

I have been lucky to have been put on the Job Centre plus Self-employment program, which is an excellent weekly workshop that takes you through all the stages of setting up an online store, all the way up to opening for business. They also help financially through the New Enterprise Allowance scheme.

Hippie Utsaah will be open at Easter and will be another cog in the machine that drives my hippie travels around India and South East Asia and my eventual plans to live in Goa long-term.

My whole life has just gone up a gear and all this was because I had the time to do it due to the pandemic lockdown.

“A free spirit is not bound by this, that, matter, materialism or opinion. They sing, dance and flow on the wind — for they are at one with it. They are nothing and everything — void and expanse. Even space and time does not confine or define them. For they are pure energy itself.” – Rasheed Ogunlaru

Being an older gentleman and having some underlying health conditions, I am next in line for the Covid vaccine and I should hear this week. For many of you the wait may be much longer.

Things are going to change for the better but it is going to take some time.

If you hate your 9 to 5 job and feel frustrated with your current life, ask yourself this; do I have a creative talent that I can turn into a business?

If the answer is yes, what is stopping you.

This lockdown period is the perfect opportunity to develop something fantastic and to use this time in a positive way.

Running your own business (depending on what it is) could give you the freedom to be the free spirit you know you are. It could free you up to travel and to live the hippie lifestyle you dream of fulltime.

“You are always free to change your mind and choose a different future, or a different past.” – Richard Bach

2021 is shaping up to be a good year but I feel this will not kick in completely until September onwards. But on the other hand 2022 is looking to be a magnificent year.

In 2021 I have booked Noisily festival and I’m looking forwards to Whirly-Fayre as well.

That said, I think Noisily is doubtful as its not that far away (July) and I do not think we will be quite there yet (although they may put this wonderful festival back).

Whirly-Fayre is also 50/50 but I pray it goes ahead.

“I’m just really a free spirit. You gotta be like that. ‘Cause life ain’t that complicated. It’s only that complicated when you make it that way. I just wanna wake up and move with the way it goes. If it’s meant to happen, it will happen.” – Future

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.” – Albert Camus

We all have it in us to open up our free spirited hippie kushi minds and embrace the future to come.

Use the lockdown time wisely to prepare for the New Age of Aquarius.

The world WILL be a different place after Covid; there is no doubt. You don’t live through something like this without it changing your mindset.

Embrace this change, embrace your hippie selves and change the world.

Become vegetarian, become an eco warrior, explore the world, have adventures, dance on the beaches of Goa (our hippie homeworld), go self-employed and embrace your creative side. Attend Whirl-y-Gig and festivals and live music gigs, party at raves, party at house parties, hug your fellow humans, explore nature, fight the establishment and be who you are truly meant to be!!

Don’t waste this time, use it in a positive way…

…prepare yourself for the dawning of the new Age of Aquarius!!

Because the time is coming

“Do you have the discipline to be a free spirit?” – Gabrielle Roth

“Indeed, at hearing the news that ‘the old god is dead’, we philosophers and ‘free spirits’ feel illuminated by a new dawn; our heart overflows with gratitude, amazement, forebodings, expectation – finally the horizon seems clear again, even if not bright; finally our ships may set out again, set out to face any danger; every daring of the lover of knowledge is allowed again; the sea, our sea, lies open again; maybe there has never been such an ‘open sea’.” – Friedrich Nietzsch

Until next time...
