Soundtracks to Life

On the day that I have finally found a job after five months of searching, I thought I would celebrate this important occasion with music.

My last blog post, looking back at Whirl-y-gig in the 1990’s, found me in reflective mood. I feel I have had an interesting and fulfilling life so far with all its adventures, whaky moments, triumphs and tragedies.

The art of ‘Being Stephen’ has been helped along by the soundtrack to my life. The wonderful music that has inspired and motivated me over the years has been diverse and inspirational and will continue to do so in the years to come.

So, I thought it would be fun to look back on the music that has meant so much to me, as well as the great music I am listening to today. My hope is it will inspire you to look back on the great tunes you have loved over your lifetime as well as the amazing music you listen to today.

I would love to get your feedback on this, Tell me the music you have loved as well as a list of tracks you recommend today. All are most welcome (feedback to me either via Facebook comments underneath the link or through the feedback tab below this post on my site).

We all have a favourite track from our lifetime and I think this one is an absolute masterpiece: Neil Young’s Country Girl from CSN&Y’s Deja Vue album.

Oh Gino by Dexys Midnight Runners is the first track I ever bought and I still love it today.

During the New Romantic era, Tubeway Army was my thing.

Through influential friends, my tastes soon evolved and Tom Waits and Nick Drake became my thing.

A pivotal song in my life, the amazing Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack.

It wasn’t long before the hippie music starting creeping in. My favourites are Neil Young and CSN.

And then of course the world music.

Today my music tastes are as diverse as ever, so here’s a compilation of what I currently listen too.

Alabama 3: Ain’t gonna Goa

Alt-J (∆) – Matilda (Johnson Somerset Remix)

The Arcade Fire – Wake Up

Love You To (Remastered 2009) Beatles

Blastoyz – Mandala

The Doors – The End (Eitan Reiter Remix)

Fever Ray ‘Keep The Streets Empty For Me’

Joi – Asian Vibes

Moby – Falling Rain and Light (Moby’s Seas of Light Remix)

The Taboo – Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan vs. Pryda (DJ Fad’s Mashup)

Village of the Damned; Piroshka

Music is joy, music is everything, music is our soundtrack.

Now how about you let me know what music you love to listen to.
